Do You Teach Writing?

Just ran across this wonderful site that was created by an English teacher called "Grammar Me" or GRMR.ME. It is designed to help students learn to write with immediate feedback and the ability to learn more on the spot while practicing writing. I think you will agree that this is worth your time and efforts to check out. As you grade student writing, you can give them the simple "code" or link as you discover an error. Here is a code for the ever so hard skill of subject-verb agreement: grmr.me/sva
All you would do is type that in your address bar and voila! You have a video lesson and students can even take a quiz to see if they have mastered the skill. Love this resource and I don't even teach writing. He is a quick guide to the different grammar codes. The best part of this resource is that it is FREE!

Do You Like Cool Stuff? It's October Time

What a way to welcome the month of October! I came across this free Writing Pack from Ed Galaxy. Don't you just love it when companies support students and teachers by providing resources to encourage writing. This is Cool Stuff for Nerdy Teachers, according to edgalaxy..com. They offer other resources for Literacy, Math, Technology, and more. Being an Instructional Technology Specialist for my District, Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD, I especially like the "Geek of the Week" projects to engage students with technology. Enjoy and download your October Writing Pack Here!

Do You Teach Super Sentences?

I understand how stretched teachers' budgets are and how many teachers spend their own money on teaching supplies. Teachers do this because they care for their students and want to provide the best learning possible. That is why I love sharing websites that offer free resources and opportunities to download teaching resources. Today, I ran across this poster for Super Sentences by Teaching Packs. Every so often, they allow you to download one of their resources. I have found some great visuals on Story Starters which is in another post.  I hope someone who reads this will be able to use the Super Sentences. My students always enjoyed creating super sentences in class as I know yours do. Here is where you can download your own copy.

There are great videos that you can use in class to support your lessons. They cover Literature, World History, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Ecology, Astronomy, Psychology, and U.S. Government and Politics. How to Help Your Child with Reading Homework

I taught young students how to read for 14 years before moving into the world of technology. As I search for valuable resources, I share my discoveries with others here. Today, I ran across this video that is an excellent resource for teachers to share with parents. If we are going to help youngsters with reading, we want to be on the same page in using strategies during their practice at home. I can see teachers using this at the beginning of school for Meet the Teacher or during Parent Conferences. In my opinion, the video is a great resource and can alleviate many problems before they begin. Hope you like it!

Science of Everyday Life

Great resource for Science teachers! You need to check out this one-stop portal from Discovery Education and 3M with K-12 standards-aligned lesson plans. This is for ALL ages, with tabs for Teachers, Students, and Families. I love the sections on Interactive Lesson plans that you can download to use on IWB (Interactive Whiteboards) tablets, and more. They are sorted by grade level strands: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12 much like Discovery Education's videos are categorized. You can even test your knowledge in identifying how science can appear in unexpected places by visiting the Innovation HQ (Headquarters). It is equipped with Virtual Labs, Did You Know, Science Fun, and a section where you can meet 3M Scientists. As if that was not enough, you can Travel through Time using the Decade Navigator to explore in a timeline fashion. I can see some great group work using this tool and have students create learning media for others. What a great way for them to explore past innovations! I can imagine History teachers also loving this tool and collaborating with Science teachers to learn more about the past. Don't you just know that at the end of all this learning, there is a quiz for each decade! Now that is a neat way to complete the learning, right teachers?

Give Studyladder Another Look

Teachers, if you have not checked out Studyladder lately, now is a great time to give them another look. They have made some great changes and it is FREE (did I say free) for teachers. If you list your students before the end of September, they will receive EXTRA access, free to any of the tasks you set up. (Normally, there is 3 activities per day from home) What is Studyladder? It is a web based educational program designed by teachers like YOU. For grades PK - 7th or for those students needing some remediation. They cover content in Mathematics, Literacy, and more. What's great is that it can be used at school and at home. What I like about it is the interactive activities for the SMART boards. That is enough said, right? Simply go to www.studyladder.com and check out the resources for yourself. Hope you find it useful for your class!

President's Day: February 17th

I understand that we all have talents, gifts, and passions. Tonight, I ran across this awesome resource on President's Day that I had to share for others to access. This librarian/media specialist has curated an awesome resource for others. I applaud her for the time and efforts in pulling together these links and saving time for our dedicated teachers who are already pulled in so many directions with little time of their own to do this type of extensive searching. I hope you agree that this is a great resource on President's Day. Hail to + Julie Greller! May she be blessed for making others lives better by providing
"A Media Specialist Guide to the Internet" and the page on 41 Presidents' Day Sites for Your Classes.
